Mt Kilimanjaro- Tanzania
Kilimanjaro is the Africa’s tallest peak,and also the world’s tallest free standing mountain. The summit, named Uhuru Point, is 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level.The mountain was formed from volcanic activity.The temperature on the summit can go as low as -18 C and if the wind is blowing, the wind chill will make it a lot colder.There are 179 species of birds and various species of antelops , bats and seven different types of primates recorded on the mountain. Trails for hikers include Machame, Lemosho, and Shira routes and they are the most popular and ranging from six to eight days.

Mount Kenya- Kenya
This is the second highest mountain in Africa, and the highest mountain in Kenya.The different routes up the mountain includes Sirimon being the most popular and hikers can take upto two days. Narumoru and Chogoria route is used to descend. A good hike will take from 4-5 Hrs.

Ruwenzori Mountain- Uganda – 5,109 metres (16,762 ft).

Also known as the Mountains of the Moon .It is the third highest peak in Africa after Kilimanjaro and Mt Kenya .The highest Rwenzori peaks are permanently snow-capped. This mount is a host to Ruwenzori Mountains National Park and Virunga National Park.There are various summits available for hikers, including Margherita Peak, Mount Stanley, Mount Speke and Mount Baker.

Mt Karisimbi-Rwanda – 4,507 metres (14,787 ft),
The name Karisimbi comes from the word ‘amasimbi’ in the local language(Kinyarwanda, meaning snow. It is the 4th highest tallest mount in Africa and Snow can mostly be found during the dry season in June, July and August on the top of the volcano. Hikers will trek for two days, the first night is ussually at the base camp before attempting summit the following morning.

Mt Sabinyo-Uganda- 11,960 ft.
The word is delivered from a local dialect meaning “tooth”.The only official trail head is located just outside of Kisoro in Uganda.It’s only an eight hour day hike .

Usambara-Tanzania – Mountain-8,005 ft.
The Usambara Mountains in Tanzania are casual, idyllic, and easily accessible. They are split into two sub-ranges; the West Usambaras being higher than the East Usambaras, which are nearer the coast and receive more rainfall.

Hiking in Africa is a particularly good way to get off the beaten track and experience Africa in a more subtle and yet deeper sense. If you can physically manage it, then we strongly recommend trying to build at least one decent hike into your trip.
