MURCHISON NATIONAL PARK

1952 is the year when this park was established .It sits on the shore of Lake Albert, in northwest Uganda.

This is the largest National park in Uganda. It is comprised of Murchison Falls National Park, Bugungu Wildlife Refuge and Karuma Wildlife Refuge. Currently, the national park itself encompasses 3,893 sq.km.

At the falls, Nile gushes through a narrow gorge and plunges with a thousand roar to the Albertine gorge creating a trademark rainbow.

This is a habitat for over 450 different bird species and more than  76 mammal species and over . Animals found here includes elephants, hippos, chimpanzees, lions, leopards, antelops, buffaloes, warthogs giraffes heartbeats, water bucks, warthogs, oribis, rare shoe bill storks just to mention but a few.

A lot of water birds such as rare shoe bill stork and crocodiles  can be found at the corridor  of the Nile  .

Accommodation in the park ranges from  hotels ,guesthouse,campsites and  lodges. There are  Budget accommodation for those on tight budget .There are also high end accommodations  for those who want to have a taste of luxury.

While in Murchison ensure you dont miss,Paraa,Budongo Forest,Karuma Falls,and the  Nile.

QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Queen Elizabeth National Park was gazetted in 1952, and two years later it was renamed to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain.

With an area of 1,978 square kilometers the park lies on the floor of Africa’s Western Rift Valley and foothills south of the Ruwenzori Mountains.

This is the second largest park in Uganda after Murchison national Park and its home to African buffalo, hippopotamus, Nile crocodile, leopard, chimpanzees, lions  L’Hoest’s monkey, black-and-white colobus and olive baboon, the sitatunga antelope ,spotted hyena and more than 95 species of mammals that have been recorded where they line up at the banks of Kazinga Channel .

Other attractions besides the earlier mentioned include crater lakes, volcanic cones, and Savannah. Over 600 bird species have been recorded in this park.

Apart from game viewing and trekking , clients will also enjoy bird watching and boat trips ,nature walks,have cultural experience with the local communities , explore the caves chimpanzee tracking ,hiking among other activities.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

In southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley lies Bwindi Impenetrable National Park .Bwindi in a local dialect means a dark place referring to the impenetrable nature of the forest and it covers 321 KM square .

The forest was set up in 1992 two years later it was acknowledged by the world heritage site. This is where almost half of the world’s remaining population of the endangered mountain gorilla is found.

Besides gorillas Bwindi is home to more than 120 mammals, Colubus monkeys chimpanzees and more than 360 birds have been recorded.

Among the activities that can be enjoyed in this park includes bird watching, nature walks, cycling, cultural experiences and many more.

Bwindi National park is open throughout the year .The months of June to August and December to February are the best months to do the trekking as they are a bit drier compared to the rest of the months .Half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorillas are found here that is to say more than 400 Gorillas .

The park has a  record of  350 bird species and can be reached by road and chartered flights.
