Samburu National Reserve “UNSPOILED WILDERNESS”

The reserve is located  345Km from Nairobi .It covers an area of 165 square kilometers in the north of Kenya. Next to the park are the Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves and can all be visited with one ticket valid within 24hrs.

Topography is mainly savanna with clusters of Acacia trees, thorn trees, forest and grass vegetation .Rich in flora and fauna, Samburu National Reserve Kenya lies on the flood plains and bottom land of Waso Nyiro drainage system.

It  features the rare northern specialist species such as the Grevys Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe the long necked Gerenuk and the Beisa oryx (also referred to as Samburu Special Five).Other animals includes, Elephant, cheetah, reticulated giraffe, oryx, gerenuk, vervet monkey, zebra, buffalo and crocodile.Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area.

The Samburu people just like their cousins masai wears a traditional attire, their lives revolves around livestock though they are adopting farming slowly.

Lake Bogoria is referred to as “The healing place” . It is home to one of the largest populations of the lesser flamingoes that turns the lake literally pink.
