Zanzibar Island also know as Unguja is located in the Indian Ocean 22 miles (35 km) off the coast of mainland Tanzania .Its capital, Zanzibar City is famed for its narrow streets, historic old buildings and ancient spice markets.

The climate is typically humid and tropical with an average annual rainfall of 1,500 to 2,000 mm). Coconut palms and other vegetation cover the land surface.

The “long rains” occur between March and May and the “short rains” between October and December.
